What makes a great photographer? Well, for one, hardly no one ever mentions a great photographers go to places in our world few go to. Off the beaten track. Off the grid. With editing software, the temptation is to put in your own scenes. No need to travel to those exotic places of the world as its all in software editing tools for photography, film and music these days.

But luckily, there are photographers like Jake Mosher in the world. Explorers and adventurers who capture photos far outside the usual daily spectrum all of city folk are accustomed to. And they capture their photos because they journey great distances to capture them. They search out scenes and often shoot in what photographers call the “magic hour” in early morning or evening. Jake’s photo is a time exposure shot over a period of time.

One of our great nature photographers that reminds us all of nature. See the link at the end to purchase photos from him.

Jake Mosher: Hyalite Twilight

July 2023

“I spent six years trying to capture this scene of the summer Milky Way reflected in Montana’s Hyalite Lake. I wanted the sharp reflection, but until this past summer made the five-mile hike multiple times in vain – wind was my nemesis, shifting shoreline reeds and making alignment of the panorama impossible. Finally, in July 2023, I had 26 dead calm minutes and, running two cameras, captured the scene I’d imagined for a long time. I remained on scene all night and at dawn noticed a few obsidian shards near where I’d set up my cameras. I loved thinking that, for thousands of years, people have looked up at the night sky here with much the same wonder I feel today. I hope we never unravel all of our universe’s mysteries.”
