I’d Be Happy / Swing Out Sister (2008)
I’d be happy to live without you
If I knew there could be more to love than this
If I only knew that
I’d be happy to find a new love
I’d be loving someone else
The British group Swing Out Sister has been one of my favorite groups over the years. Then, thanks Rich, I rediscover this gorgeous from SOS in 2008. A woman confesses to us about leaving a relationship if only she could be assured there is a better life out there waiting for her. That she might in fact be able to live this life. Corinne Drewery and Andy Connelly of Swing Out Sister.
SOS explores dramatic moments in lives when one needs to simply “Break Out” from their everyday habits and take on a new perspective of life. Here, that middle position in a relationship where a spouse is wondering what a new life would be like. Outside the confines (but security) of the relationship. The security that she’s not willing to take a chance on as she says “If I only knew that I’d be happy to find a new love, I’d be loving somone else.” Like many of Corinne Drewery’s songs, the lyrics are powerful. Here, someone caught between, in that middle position, of a relationship.
I’D Be Happy / Lyrics
I know there’s something on your mind
But you won’t show
Hell, if I could read your thoughts I wouldn’t want to know
What it’s all about
To know that you have your doubts
But if you decide to go
There’s something you should know
I’d be happy to live without you
If I knew there could be more to love than this
If I only knew that
I’d be happy to find a new love
I’d be loving someone else
Time and time again the words that once came easily
Freedom from my mind and I can’t seem to set them free
But if you won’t stay
What use are they anyway
My heart will always show
What you already know
I’d be happy to live without you
If I knew there could be more to love than this
If I only knew that
I’d be happy to find a new love
I’d be loving someone else
But if you won’t stay
What use is it anyway
My heart my won’t let me hide
Now I’ve made up my mind
If you decide to go
There’s something you should know
I’d be happy
My heart will always show
What you already know
If you decide to go
There’s something you should know
I’d be happy
To live without you
If only if I’d knew that
I’d be happy to find a new love
I’d be loving someone else
